From its very entrance, the Sofitel Legend Santa Clara is a unique architectural wonder. Originally a convent, every single corner highlights a different detail rescued in the restoration of its former use, such as the confessionals, water wells and the original wooden balusters from colonial times. This contrasts with the Republican wing, whose central scenario is the magnificent pool in a lounge environment.
Sofitel Legend Santa Clara has been 100% renovated in 2018 with the support of Arias Serna y Saravia, in collaboration with renowned designers and decorators such as Marcela Villegas, Lina Botero and Ana Mercedes Hoyos.
The last phase of the renovation was specifically for the Superior and Classic room categories of the Hotel, which aimed to create spaces featuring a more contemporary concept without losing the historic essence given by its colonial and republican nature
The hotel counts with 124 rooms, including 15 suites, within which there are four iconic suites; two restaurants (1621 and El Claustro); the swimming pool area; the SoSpa and the SoFit.
Sofitel Legend Santa Clara counts with 124 rooms, including 15 suites. They are distributed along the Colonial and Republican wings overlooking the Historic Center of the city, the Caribbean Sea, as well as the hotel swimming pool and inner yards.

They have a view to the Historic Center and are equipped with a bathtub, a Bose SoundDock® speaker for iPod®, a flat screen TV set, a minibar, a safe deposit box, an exclusive line of amenities from the French Luxury brand Hèrmes®, Sofitel “MyBed”® exclusive concept, a pillow menu, courtesy Wi-Fi and butler service.
The proposal for the rooms located in the Republican area, is inspired by serenity, relaxation and elegance with a fresh air, white linens; and nacreous pearly touches on the walls that evoke seashells.
In this same area, on the first floor is the SPA SUITE with 73 m², distributed on two levels. On the first level, you can find a social area, a large and complete bathroom equipped with a space for Spa treatments and a semi-private, unique terrace with Jacuzzi and a vertical garden. On the second level, is the master bedroom with a full bathroom and tub with hydro massage.
Sofitel Legend Santa Clara pays homage to Colombian art by raising four of its Suites to the category of Iconic Suite. Each suite is named after a renowned Colombian artist: Fernando Botero, Ana Mercedes Hoyos, Jim and Olga de Amaral and Enrique Grau; with an innovative proposal that aims to capture the artistic essence of these artists and transmit it to its guests.
The Presidential Suite Fernando Botero, with 147 m², has a large double height living room, a main bathroom, a guest bathroom, a walking closet, a kitchen and a bedroom with a living room. Each of its environments has been designed with comfort and sophistication in mind, paying attention to the smallest details, all with a Colombian touch. The artist visited the suite himself and left his signature framed on the wall as a sign of approval. His daughter was tasked with the interior design. The suite is decorated with artworks by Botero that preside over the great hall and in the different spaces of the room.
On the other hand, the Junior Legend Suite Ana Mercedes Hoyos is the emblem of the Republican wing. Overlooking the Caribbean Sea, this generously proportioned and cozy suite of 73m² / 786 Sq. Ft. features white crochet woven cushions with Calacatta marble finishes and pearly touches.
The touch of color is given by elements inspired by the renowned Colombian artist Ana Mercedes Hoyos, through her works in Serigraphy, that evoke the colorful fiestas of the Palenqueras. The suite showcase an original work by the artist that consists of three bronze figures that recalls the bows in the Palenqueras’ female costumes.
The iconic Amaral Suite evokes the magic of the Caribbean Sea and takes it to each one of its corners, with a total area of 216m². Occupying the fifth floor of the Republican Area, the Amaral Suite combines a large interior space with a remarkable terrace overlooking the Caribbean Sea, a deck with private Jacuzzi and pergola that shelters a large social area with its bathroom and shower. For families, it has the great advantage of integrating contiguously with one or two Luxury rooms through a hall. The suite also showcases original art pieces by artists Jim and Olga de Amaral.
The Grau Suite pays a special tribute to the Colombian Maestro Enrique Grau Araujo. Located on the third floor of the Republican Area, it is ideal for guests who wish to experience the magic of the Colombian culture. Distributed in two levels, this 73m² / 785 Sq Ft. Suite displays contemporary interiors with bright colors and an impressive terrace overlooking the Caribbean Sea where its iconic sculpture of a “Maria Mulata Cartagenera” stands out. The Iconic Suite also counts with original pieces by the great Enrique Grau.
On the first level, lies a pleasant social area with a large and full bathroom as well as a stunning terrace overlooking the Caribbean Sea. On the second level, is the master bedroom with a full bathroom and Whirlpool tub. The Suite is decorated in a modern fashion with sculptures, paintings, books and pictures of the life of the artist: every corner of the room reflects the singularity and vivacity of his work.
The renovation of the hotel began with the 1621 Restaurant, former dining area of the Clarisse, it is one of the most renowned gastronomic restaurants in the country. With its wine cellar awarded by “Wine Spectator” for six consecutive years and a gastronomy that mixes French techniques with local ingredients, it is the ideal place to enjoy a gourmet dinner in Cartagena.
Its daring and modern decoration contrasts with the colonial architecture of the place, dating from 1621, back when it was the simple dining room of the Clares. The beautiful chandelier hanging in the middle of the room was especially designed for the place by the designers Luz Angela Lizarazo and Marina Valencia (Liz Ediciones Insolitas). This unique piece gives cachet to the site by diffusing a bright light with wine and gold tones and by integrating figures such as birds, flowers and branches.
Meanwhile, El Claustro Restaurant, one of the old dining rooms of the Clares, is today an is today an innovative space where you can enjoy at any moment of the day, a pleasant experience in the middle of a historical environment with a Caribbean vocation.
The hotel counts with one of the best relaxation and wellness area in the city with the Sofitel Spa and Sofitel Gym. The gymnasium provides the best cardio machines, weights, among others, available for guests and visitors.
Meanwhile, the Sofitel Spa with its 800 square meters, counts with eight modern cabins for beauty and relaxation treatments distributed in: five Luxury cabins, 2 Spa Suite and 1 Spa Suite Duo. The spa also offers to its guest a hammam, jacuzzi, exclusive products from the French cosmetic brand Sisley, a tea area and a spectacular terrace overlooking the Caribbean Sea.
